Don’t worry if you don’t quite master this technique on your first attempt. As with everything in life… Practice makes perfect.!

My own personal preference is to us an angled makeup brush along with a liquid or gel eyeliner yet it’s always best to find what you feel the most comfortable with.

Once you feel comfortable with how to apply pencil eyeliner, take it up a notch or two & try using the angled brush along with the liquid liner OR with a charcoal or black eyeshadow.

CAT EYE MAKEUP

Step 1 - Before starting, make sure you have a satisfactory canvas to work with. Prepare your skin to maximize the efficiency of your eye makeup application.

Step 2  - Cat Eye Makeup is all approximately your EYELINER!!! Have a satisfactory dark brown or black pencil ready. You can moreover use eyeshadow as your eyeliner (softer look) or liquid eyeliner (a little more difficult yet more striking effect).

Step 3 -  Now, apply your base eyeshadow on the entire upper eyelid…can be any color really yet if you want a low-key look, use a neutral matte eyeshadow that compliments your skin tone. For a little glam & intensity, use a shimmer shadow or a deeper color such as dark taupe, brown or smokey grey, even black if desired.

Step 4 - It is always a satisfactory idea at first to use a light eye pencil to lightly draw on your cat eye makeup wings.  Then of course, if you happen to make a mistake, you can easily erase it using a Q-Tip. The line should start thinly & thicken as it gets closer to the outer corner of your eye.

Step 5 - Once you have the shape you are looking for drawn in light eye pencil, step away from the mirror for a couple minutes. When you return you should notice whether or not your eyeliner looks even & symmetrical or not. If it doesn’t, simply erase & adjust.

Step 6 - Once you are satisfied with the look, trace over it with liquid liner or dark eye pencil. How long you make your cat eye makeup wings is totally up to you & often depends on your eye & face shape as well as your personality & the impact you are wanting to achieve.

Tip
To assist avoid having uneven wings, do your weakest eye first. This is usually the eye opposite whatever hand hand is dominant. So if you’re right handed do your left eye first & vice versa. It’s much easier to match your better eye to the weaker eye than to create a perfect eye then try to match it on the weak side. It moreover helps if you look down into the mirror so the eyes are almost closed.

There is always a buzz when a celebrity like Ashlee Simpson steps out in public with a cat eye makeup look created with eyeshadow instead of eyeliner. It’s so dramatic, don’t you agree?…

Cat Eye Makeup – Get The Soft Look

There are a couple of ways to go approximately this. The first is to draw the line with eyeliner, then use a crease brush (an eye shadow brush that comes to a soft point) & carefully draw on top of the swoosh.

But if you want a thinner line, you need an eyeliner brush–preferably the pointy kind as opposed to the flat type. You just wet it a little first, load it up with shadow & draw a curved little line coming out of your outer corners.

Cat Eye Makeup The Rachel Woods Way

If you look closely you can see she has a wing on both her upper & lower lids & that both lines remain apart at the outer corner of the eye.

There is moreover another strong line of shadow in her crease that connects to the top “wing,” adding to the effect (or possibly the confusing of the effect).

Some may call it quirky & bold & sure, it could easily turn into a complete disaster if any part of it smudged. But, with all that said, I  can’t assist yet admire it in a strange way.

Ke$ha’s has never been one to blend in, so it makes sense that she’d go for a look at the ASCAP Pop Music Awards that could easily be see across a crowded stadium.

In all fairness, this cat eye makeup style isn’t too far over the top considering.  It’s just an exaggerated, overly thick cat eye with extended wings .

Which means some of you might actually be into it… right?

So what do you think… Is this a style you would run to run from?
